Another Southern Safari Circuit destination is Mikumi National Park. It is a fairly large park and can be visited as a stand alone option or combined with a visit to Nyerere National Park. It is a 5-6 hour drive from Dar es Salaam (280km) or you can reach it by flying into the park from Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, or Arusha Airports. It has been a national park for a longer time compared to Nyerere so the infrastructure is more established. The abundance of animals is very good and with good variety - all of the "Big Five" (rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard) are present.
